Well, I promised pics when I finished this rolltop desk. So here it is.
It's Cherry. I stained it with General Finished Warm Cherry, and put on 6 coats of my Tung oil finish, then a coat of wax. The pictures don't do it justice (I guess I need a new digital camera). The plan is from Woodsmith #103. This is a gift to my wife (see lets me buy tools). She is very happy with it.

Thanks for all of the kind words about my work.
Here is a shot of the top down. It was before I finished it, as it is the only pic I have at the moment.
I built the tambor myself. I used a 3/8 round overbit (I didn't have a 3/4 bull nose bit). I would bull nose one edge, rip off a 5/16 strip, and repeat this about 30 times. I made a squaring jig out of mdf to glue the strips to black canvas. I used contact cement to glue the strips.

My Tung oil finish is Pure Tung Oil, Mineral Spirits, and Parks Pro Poly. I rub in on with a rag. It produces a very thin coat the way that I mix it, and dries in 24 hours. So 6 coats takes me a week to do. I think I got this idea from someone here on SMC, but I don't remember who. It's a lot of work, but the results are fantastic.

I started it in January. so about 2 months off and on. The most difficult part was the pidgeon hole assy. It's 1/2" cherry. I resawed then planed it down. It was a difficult assy to clamp up.
