You would probably look for a while before you found a piece of mesquite this wide with no pith in it. Turned side grain, it is 14" across and 2" tall.
It has been sanded to 600 grit and finished with Antique Oil. Thanks for looking!

Great looking platter! You gotta love mesquite. Thanks again for the piece you sent me a couple years ago.

Thanks for this post. I've got some Bradford Pear that is at least that wide, though not as thick, and have been looking to do a platter - though I'm thinking mine will be oval and done with a router. The tree was 35 years old and 33" across at the base.

Nice platter. I have some Bradford pear that is about 18" wide so it would be a good canditate for one of those.

Great platter, Robert. I've done flatwork and am just now started turning with mesquite. No wood like it.
Sent you a PM.

Sorry Tony, I have obviously been labeled as being able to only turn segmented pieces. :o I amended my post......... :D

"A segmented platter from mesquite. Making it with one really big segment made for an easy glue up. Used a solid bottom, as I was not worried about glue failure."

Hope you are enjoyiing retirement as much as me, Tony!

Nice to see you don't cut up beautiful pieces of wood Robert! Not that I have seen much mesquite in person, but that is about the reddest appearing I have seen. Beautiful platter!
