Old Red Wood

A friend of mine gave me an old piece of Red Wood plank the other day and wanted me to make a pen from it. It was really straight grained so I took a 15* slice off of it. I thought after seeing the cut that the pen wouldn't look like much even with the angle cut.

But it surprised me and came out pretty decent. It actually dresses up this Chrome Slimline quite nicely although I had some trouble with it splitting and chipping out very easily. You can see some repairs up at the finial if you look closely.

That is a marvelous pen, does you proud sir. I'd love to try Redwood, but I'm in the U.K.! If I ever see some, I'll make sure to get it.

I usually move away from chrome...this is going to make me look at it again...beautiful wood and pen!!
