Eastern Red Cedar and Bloodwood Wing-box with gilding. This was my first attempt at gilding. This was inspired by my recent High School Reunion. It rests on the wings with the bottom of the box just barely off the table. Around 6" (15 cm) at it's widest point. Finished with EM6000 waterborne lacquer.

Real nice work Eric. Looks as though the conquered the gilding quite well for a first try. Nice touch in leaving the NE on the piece too. What is the thickness on the piece adjacent to the bowl? To me almost seems a bit to thick in that area but it may the the photo angle too.

The "arch" is around 1/4" (6 mm) thick at its thickest.

Really nice piece and you did well for your first time gilding.

Thanks, the gilding was a learning process. I did the finial first with water based size then did the bowl second with shellac as size. Not yet sure which I prefer, not a fair comparison with very different surface shapes and new to it.
