Bought a Delta 1460 16 Speed Wood/ Metal Lathe, It does not have the legs with it. Everything else is there Jack shalft and motor and stuff. But no table. I thought I might laminate up some plywood for the legs make them 3" Thick and HD, then laminate the top shelf and bottom shelf also. This way there's extra weight in it.
Would it be best to do the shelfs out of plywood like this or just make it like a choping block and laminate 2 x 4's up for both?

Of if anyone use has done this for Delta 1460 16-Speed Lathe ? Bought this one for $75 and a 2 hour trip to pick it up. Looking forward to useing it, been using one of those chinise pieces of junk for around 12 years and love turning. But this one will make it so much better without the issues of movement and stuff. Heres a pic to what I have been using so anything is a step up. But it did give me the turning bug. Think I will just give it to someone to get them started also.

Also plan on stripping it down and repaint the lathe before setting it up. Any pointers on tearing it down and restoring it?

is that a picture of the Chinese lathe or a new1460 delta?

the old delta 1460 was a quality machine

The Picture is what I have been using for about 8 or 10 years. I have not gotten around to setting the Delta 1460 up yet. Hope to get a base built for it by next week. Then enjoy it for a while.
The one in your link is what I bought. Picked it up for $75 but without a base and legs. So plan on building something like this for it.
