I'd Like to turn a table-top wine cooler for a 1.5 Liter wine bottle.
This would be a hollowed cylinder approximately 5.25" wide and 10" high with 3/4" wall.

What wood would you recommend for this project?
I'm thinking Oak, Cedar, Redwood????

I would recommend looking around for a liner to hold the ice, then you can use whatever wood strikes your fancy. Seems to me I remember seeing some stainless steel liners that are just for this, but can't remember where. "Old timers" is setting in!

You can get steel inserts many places online...or do as many do when turning wooden thermal mugs...buy a cheap one and pop the outside off.

Just about any wood could do the job, so long as it has a good water resistant finish on it. My girlfriends parents are a really nice one made out of segmented walnut that is probably 10+ years old and still looks great.

Also, when putting the insert in the wooden vessel...I've heard of people using both Gorilla Glue or spray insulation to fill any voids between the pieces.
