Recently bought a Makita 2040 15" planer and the feed rollers are shot.
I think I remember seeing information somewhere that instead of buying new ones they can be re-covered.
Anyone out there that has done this?
Where was it done?
How much did you spend?
What material should be used?

I had the rollers on my Makita 2030 recovered 10 years ago in Atlanta. At that time it was well over 1/2 the cost of a new set. I've lost track of that company. You might try one of the following sites:www.westernroller.com

I have had the rollers recovered by Western Roller in Bend, Oregon within the past 60 days. I believe the price was $92/per roller, plus shipping. The finished product is quite satisfactory, took about 2 weeks to get the rollers back. A good experience, and I would use them again.

By way of warning, when you replace the rollers, replace the plane bearings that they ride in and be very careful not to set the rollers to low in relation to the cutterhead, or you will bend the shaft on the infeed roller when the material jams. DAMHIKT. And the OEM rollers are very expensive. Really.
