Walnut 11x5 and VERY high gloss. This was my beast entry over on WTA contest. The gloss is so deep and shiney I never could get a decent pic of it without a ton of glare. Started as a bowl but ran into a black carpenter ant colony who had hollowed out a big part of the middle and out through the edges in many spots. Has 8 or 9 coats of satin poly wet sanded flat between coats to get a level surface with no pores showing. Buffed and ren wax.

Amazing finish!
I always thought satin finishes with flatteners muddled details
Looks great!

Great job, Bill!! My favorite finishing schedule! Works great with the open pore woods.

Those ants did you a favor on this one!

Such a cool looking piece! I've seen glass surfaces that didn't have that much shine... Well done!

Bill,
What a finish!! It takes a lot of confidence in your workmanship and surface prep to do such a gloss finish on a dark wood that shows every little scratch. You've done it beautifully. Also, with clear view into the interior, it looks like a smooth job in there, too.

Never cared for shiny....the pattern in your wood definately makes the exception...a master finish for gloss...and the bowl is nice work too.
