This was last nights project.
I cut a piece from the same root log as the little hf I did a few days ago, but went with a closed bowl form this time.
I'm still liking this mesquite root wood!
4 1/2" x 3" finished with BLO and a few coats of lacquer sanding sealer (I'll add more tomorrow then buff it out).

And yes, that is the pith running right through the middle and not a single sign of a crack. :D

Thanks for looking!
Comments and critiques welcome.

Impressive little turning, Kathy! The mesquite must be some stable stuff!

Absolutely beautiful! Love the color contrast and the shape. If you ever hear your subconscious telling you to share a piece of Mesquite root with someone let me know:):):)

Another beauty Kathy. Just love the contrast of the wood. I got a piece of mesquite a couple of years ago and the piece had the pith in it. It still hasn't cracked. Gotta love turning mesquite.

Nice piece Kathy! Always amazes me you can take a piece of mesquite and go from green to almost finished in one evening.

Another great looking piece. Would you please post a picture of the root cross section as cut with saw? I find the amount of sap wood hard to believe and nothing like I have ever seen before. It might be that we are turning the wrong part of the tree.
