So this weekend I decided to make a Moxon vise out of some threaded rods I found in my shop after moving in last year. The fellow who owned my house before was a welder/fabricator and left quite a few metalwork type things when he moved. I was going to throw these out but something made me hang onto them, and this weekend the idea came...
The handles are made from two pieces of walnut for each with a big nut sandwiched between the two. The face is made from a piece of curly maple I picked up from a shop that was moving out of province and selling all their leftovers cheap. The back is a piece of Alder (I believe... It was given to me and that is what I was told). Overall it is a very simple design and works very well. Overall cost to me was the piece of walnut short for $5.00, and the piece of maple which was $25.00 for a 12 foot piece, of which I used 3 feet for this vise. Sweet deal!!!
The height is 6 inches and the overal width is 34 inches with 28 inches between the screws...
