These Sycamore bowl/platters were cut as 1/4 sections from a section 20" long about 24" D. I was thinking it was larger, but that was both weak back, weak mind, and a year ago. The larger is 18 3/4" L x 12 3/4" W x 6" H and about 5/8" WT finished with 2 coats of Grapeseed Oil for salad or general kitchen use. The smaller is 17 1/2 L x 13 1/4 W x 4 H x 1/2 WT and finished with multiple (about 4) coats of oil/poly and Renassiance Wax since the void made it not suitable for wet use. Photos are not my strong point.

Really nice looking bowls. Where do you get your grape seed oil?

Bernie,

It is available in the health food stores and used as a cooking oil. I saw the brand I bought several years ago and quart was about $11 but then there was a larger bottle (possibly even 1/2 gal) for $10. I used about 4 oz total on this piece, 4 Bradford Pear salad bowls about 15+ Dia, and a 13" D River Birch platter, giving them all 2 heavy applications, and then wiping off excess after letting it soak for about 20 minutes. It is an easy application.

Great shapes Thomas! They remind me of an old oval chopping bowl we have on our kitchen counter and keep fruit in.
