My wife's cousin stopped by on his way to the east coast from Edmonton. dropped off some deer, moose and elk antler for me. He picked up the wife giving me a couple weeks peace and quiet to clean the shop and turn. His daughter is getting married some time next year so I made the Canadiana with a bit of moose as a wedding pen for her. I'll get it engraved once I get the dates. The bow tie I made for him as a thank you using a piece of the deer antler.

Wow I do like those. Those are beauties. I just got in some bowtie kits and hope mine turn out as well as yours did.

Very nice Rick. I have done deer antler but mine have not been that white. Have treated it in someway to whiten it or is that natural for the type of deer?

Very nice. Did you stabilize them or just turn them as is? What is your finish. You gonna make a grooms pen?

The bowtie has some dark spots on it but the Canadiana in moose is really that nice. I got lucky the pieces were big enough I was able to avoid the center pith in the moose antler and still turn off all the outside.

Turned as is and a CA finish. With my homemade carbide tool they turn like a dream.

It does stink but I set my shop vac up with the inlet about a half inch from the turning so it pulls everything away from me. Of course the wife is visiting relatives in the east coast for another week so I have a week to air the house out:D

Beautiful pens. So many options, so little time.

that's the whitest antler I have ever seen. Looks spectacular.
