I have GOT to give this a try! Not my idea, but I wish it was!

Nice idea for sure. Only potential problem is that the fabric used could absorb moisture and cause the tools to rust. Not sure if a some synthetic 'dress liner comes to mind' fabric could be used instead. Could give more of a silk look though.

What happens when you buy another tool? Woodworkers do that fairly often, you know.

Awsome idea but I don't have a drawer in the garage that that would work on. Every drawer has way more then 5 tools in it! I would have to thin the herd by 2/3 or more to be able to do that.

Yeah, that would last about 2 days in my shop, then I'd need to refoam.

Drat!!!
The story of my life - a few days late & a few dollars short!

I just finished a wooden box/carrier for my track saw rails & used some sponges glued to the inside to hold the three rails secure.
A foam and fabric liner would have added a bit of class to the box.

Make sure your drawer joints are strong and can withstand more pressure than the heavy item on top. Expanding foam can be powerful stuff!

Matt,
Good point.
IIRC, Great Stuff makes a low expansion foam that's much kinder on joints - and windows too.
We used that around our replacement windows last Fall.
