Hi,

I've turned a brandy styled goblet last month, from end-grain apple - 8 in dia. I call it "my thunder mug" because it cracked and split so quickly I swear I hear the sound of thunder.

Is there a filler type material available which has a silver/ pewter like finish? I would like to fill the cracks in the apple bowl and finish it to have an appearance of being streaked with silver. The contrast should be nice.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, I'm in deep water with this one:confused:

Heard of people using solder but have not tried, make sure it is lead free.

Look around for a powdered metal supplier and at first thought aluminum would do well.

Powdered metal mixed in with epoxy (such as key filings from the shop) and have also seen pewter used but thats a hi-tech solution (look for very low lead content, melt carefully at lower temps, etc etc)

On the 2006 AAW National Symposium DVD, there is a section by Christophe Nancey where he does a vase with pewter inlay.
