First of all, I have to say that I'm surprised to find SMC up and running right now...Irene and all. So, hope all in its path are safe.

Now for my question...

Anyone have a good source for an effective but not bank breaking air filter for a vacuum pump? I've been to the BORG, but it seems those are more for water separation than dirt. The filters in there are tiny, but the glass is big. What do/did you use/intall on yours?

Thanks in advance...

I use an automotive inline gas filter from the local auto parts store.

I am using an automotive oil filter cartridge with a custom built canister made from PVC pipe & fittings. Go down to post #5 to see it. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?162882-My-New-Vacuum-Chuck&highlight=

I use an inline dust filter (looks a bit like a moisture trap) picked up for under $10, it was a compressed air filter hooked up with the output connected to the vacuum pump and the input hooked up to the chuck.

Edit: I located Steve Schlumpf's most excellent tutorial (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?84279-Vacuum-Chuck-System-%E2%80%93-How-I-Built-Mine). My system is based off of his write-up.

I am using a auto fuel filter on mine. I think it was $9.
