Brand new at pen turning...

I'm a newbie at pen turning, but I glued the brass barrels in a pen blank today using 5 min. epoxy. Had a little left over and wondered how it would look as a final finish on a pen. I took a piece of scrap, turned it and sanded to 1200, then applied the epoxy. Didn't look too bad.
Just curious if anyone else has tried epoxy as a finish on pens/pencils.

Tried it several years ago and it didn't hold up well. Lots of hairline cracks and lots of chips.
