It has been over 2 years since I last turned anything or checked in here. Nice to see so many old friends, and lots of new people too.

Now that my masters is done, it's back to the shop :D

Here's a piece of maple I did earlier this week. Not real happy with the final form. I think the top opening needs to be about half as big as it is. I kept working on the piece though because I've always had a hard time getting maple finished so that it does not look muddy. I tried something different for the finish and am happy with the way it came out. None of the muddy look I always had before. Comments and critiques are welcome.

Finish: Waterlox over blonde shellac. Buffed and waxed.

You sure couldn't tell from the piece that it is the first in two years. Looks great to me.
