Found a small piece of spalted log out back and took it to the workshop and this box jumped out. I really don't know what kind of wood it is other than the walnut accents I used.

That is an excellent looking box! I really like the spalting! Could it be birch? Nice work!

That is some way cool spalted wood. :cool: I have some stuff laying around my property that I suspect might have some nice spalting. I'm trying to figure out how to cut it up - I got a chainsaw - but no bandsaw

Chris, You have done well>put to a beautiful use a piece of wood that most folks would consider junk. The walnut accents fit the color to a tee.

Keep up the looking in the scrap pile.

Interesting wood. I have some very very similiar and have been told that it is Hickory. I do know that it is very hard. I have quite a bid that is resting......I'm waiting for it to tell me what it wants to be.

It is just a wild guess -- but it looks like spalted beech to me
