Turned this a few days ago. Didn't like it very much after completion. Has some bark inclusions which I treated with CA. There are at least 3 pith centers maybe 4 in the wall. It is colorfully, that's about all it has in redeeming qualities. I am still thinking of some other embellishment for it such as a lid and finial, just can't think of a complimentary wood for it. On the plus side I didn't experience any cracks until I had a big catch on the rim.

Stats:

Material = Aromatic Eastern Red Cedar
Height = 3.5"
Diameter = 6.5"
Finish = One coat of rattle can shellac + three coats of satin WOP

C&C welcomed.

Very nice JD! I think it would make a beautiful decorative bowl for the holidays. I love the wood.

I like it James. Hated to see you use the word catch on No. 41. Hoping by the time I got past about 10, I could look forward to minimal catches.

That red cedar is really full of color! Some of the best coloring I have seen lately and I like the bowl shape after looking at it a while. One of those that the more you look at it the better it looks.

JD, that sure is a beautiful piece of cedar! Kind of a neat form, too. Putting another wood with it would be challenging - perhaps clear maple. But, I think it probably does better without a lid.

James - nice looking bowl! Love he rich color and feel it does not need anything else - is great just as it is!

Tom - John is correct in that most folks have problems with catches at the rim. With experience, you find ways to work through that area first and then try not to go back to it!

Nice looking bowl James. I think I would forget the lid or embellishments. The wood stands by itself.
