This is my first attempt at a hollow form. Made from California Laurel and walnut. I glued the walnut on the blank and drilled a 1" hole as deep as my forstner bit would go and hollowed through that hole. Dimensions are 5 1/4" X 3 3/4" and 3/16" thick I was too chicken to go thinner.

This was practice because the blank had a couple of cracks in it which you can see close up. I had to sand and finish it twice because I let it get away from me as I parted it off. I'm too ashamed to tell why.

Boy, I'll Tell ya Don, for a first effort, that is very nice! 3/16" isn't that thick!

Since I've had some pieces try to "Fly." I can guess why you had to re-finish it.

Keep up the good work and keep posting the pictures. They will be a pleasure to see.

Don,

That is beautiful and outstanding work! I am on my fifth try at a hollow form and have gotten only one piece completed. Getting yours down to 3/16" thick is great. Keep it up. I look forward to more of your work.

Very nice, Don!

Did you do that on your Jet Mini? I remember you posting about your variable speed modification.

Excellent work!

Yes, Martin. That is from my Jet mini. I have another one that will be about the same size and shape. I want to try a different finish on the second one. I need to wait for sunshine to take pictures. These cloudy day pictures never look good.
