View Full Version : Bosch 1677M Wormdrive Saw - Squaring Blade

I made the mistake of setting a slight angle on my Bosch 1677M Wormdrive Saw and realizing I needed to correct the resulting rip cut for squareness. When I checked the saw carefully, I discovered that I could not quite get the blade to square properly with the shoe.

That led me to a study of the bevel adjustment mechanism. I found that the square stop would allow feeler gauge blades of about 0.040 thickness to pass freely. I pulled the blade all the way up to get better access to the mechanism. It helped to lube all the pivot points with a bit of light oil. As I looked more carefully, it appeared to me that the real square stop was the fit of the tightening bolt against rest of the bevel adjustment frame. I filed it lightly with a pattern file and the squareness of the blade improved. I looked at the allen set screw in the shoe and concluded that were I to run it up high enough to contact the square stop it would probably quickly fall out because so few threads would be holding it in place.

Otherwise I like the saw a lot. How often do others change the oil in their saw? How many saw the suggestion (warning really) to change the oil in a new saw after the first 10 hours of use? To save others the searching, the recommended oil is Bosch part number #80111 oil. Apparently it is identical to the Skill oil sold under the same number.

FWIW, here is a link to a generic description of the process. It is also in the manual.

If you've lost your manual, you can download it here:

http://www.boschtools.com/service/productservices/pages/ManualsandDiagramsResults.aspx?type=both&modelNum=1677m

There are links to both the manual and a parts diagram. Alternatively, you can access one of those 'rip off' sites that will charge you $9.99 to download each.

Here's a photo to make clear what I'm talking about.
