It's an eight inch one that I glued up. It's maple, walnut, and padauk. It only took a month. :) It's finished with Wipe On Poly.

Very nice, Betty! A month isn't bad for such a good result :)

Great Job Betty!! Beautiful wood and shape. The adjustment knob seems out of place which is the normal down side of a knob mechanism. If you can find one...a crank would really set this off or as you do more of them, a Crush/grind mechanism is great on the outside...a bit more challenging on the inside. Please keep doing these...you have the eye for it!

That's nice work - especially for a first!! I like the wood combination - works well together! Nice work on the beads - just enough to decorate!! Looking forward to seeing your next one!

What a fine mill Betty. Your tool control is excellent and your eye for form is right on. Seems when I turn a ball shape it always comes out looking more egg like. You nailed it here.

Wes,
Make sure the hole you drill in the inside of the peppermill body is straight. I did mine on the lathe all the way through from one end. It came out slightly crooked on the top. It's better, I think, to drill it half way from the front and half way from the back that way your top doesn't sit on it crooked like mine. :) What else did I learn? Lemme see. If you take a piece of doweling and cut a slit in it, you can wrap sandpaper around it to get a good sanding finish on the inside. I put shellac on the inside. Measure and measure and measure again so the mechanism fits precisely in the mill. I had to drill the mechanism hole in the bottom deeper to get the knob to fit right on the top.
I wish you much luck and much patience.

Betty, I missed this one! Very nice work! Having never done a peppermill, I admire those that do them. Someday, I really need to do one of these!
