woodpeckers has some baltic birch plywood on special and i dont understand the pricing?

SHEET SIZE* (18mm thick)

12 x 12 (4 Pack)

$24.99

12 x 24 (4 Pack)

$44.99

24 x 48 (2 Pack)

$79.99

now if you get a 4 pack of 12x24 (which is same as a 2 pack of 24x48)
so why is the normal 2 pack of 24x48 twice the price? so your paying
an extra 35 bucks for one less cut?? little extreme isnt it??

You're paying extra because when you cut it in half, you lose 1/8".
That is kinda stupid they would charge that much more.

If you do the math;
12" x 12" = 1 sq ft times 4 pcs = 4 sq ft
12" x 24" = 2 sq ft times 4 pcs = 8 sq ft
24" x 48" = 8 sq ft times 2 pcs = 16 sq ft

In my shop right now I have about 20 full sheets of 3/4 baltic birch, I paid full price for all of them, about $1.40 per sf. This represents a good value to me because I can get my parts out of them. I also have about 10 22" x 60" pieces , a typical size off cut in my shop. These will sit there for weeks until I find a use for them, obviously I can't get a 38" x 59" panel (common part size for me) from any of these. But, I know I can eventually use these for something. Would I pay my supplier $1.40 per sf for these? No, they don't fill all my needs. I also have a shelf lined with 20" x 24" and smaller off cuts. These are next to useless. "Daddy can I paint on this?", is what most of these are fated for. How much would I pay for these? You got it. Zero. In fact, I often have to pay someone to take this stuff away for me, so their value is actually negative.

The smaller pieces are seemingly priced better because they are less desirable. I highly doubt that what they are selling comes from full sheets that they cut up to sell as little pieces. More than likely they are processing waste material to some uniform size and getting what we call added value.

edit Actually, after looking at they're pricing I see the prices all seem pretty close. in fact smaller peices are slightly higher which makes no sense to me.

If you do the math;
12" x 12" = 1 sq ft times 4 pcs = 4 sq ft
12" x 24" = 2 sq ft times 4 pcs = 8 sq ft
24" x 48" = 8 sq ft times 2 pcs = 16 sq ft

Carrying that one step further by dividing the square feet by the price you will find the 12x12 is $6.25 /sqft, 12x24 is $5.65 /sqft and the 24x48 is $5.00 /sqft. Nothing out of line in the pricing schedule.

it's the shipping that will kill you.

Great point, wish I could sell all the small leftovers for $5-6 a sq ft :D

There's your mistake. A 4-pack of 12x24 is ONE SHEET of 24x48. There is twice as much wood in the 24x48 2-pack.
