Plexi v/s cast acrylic

Cast acrylic is better than plexi for laser engraving but which is best for LED lighting? Customer has a small plexi panel, laser engraved & the LEDs are actually drilled into the right & left edge of the 1/4" plexi. Is the drilling necessary for the illumination? Thanks in advance for any input. Sandy

what I have found out as long as your edge is clear and the
lights are under the edge it will light the whole way thru
I do not drill into the edge of the acrylic

No, but it helps capture more light when using LEDs that have a wide viewing angle...
