Some time ago I remember seeing plans for either an extruding device or break made from mdf to fashion aluminum flashing to form repair house wrapping parts. Now that I need to make one, I do not seem to be able to find them. I need to fabricate 3 six foot pieces to repair the end of my house. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

Here is an idea but it looks to me as if it wouldn't work on anything too heavy. http://www.finehomebuilding.com/how-to/video/plywood-sheet-metal-brake.aspx

Where are you located?

Rick,

Here is an old thread on the same subject: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?120028-Shop-made-sheet-metal-brake

Where in Western North Carolina are you? My wife and I go up to Bryson City several times a year.

I know I saw a better video than this one, but your use of the word "extruding" makes me think you're looking for something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmIYDpJXVAU

I sliced my thumb clear to the bone once on sheetmetal. I now give it a VERY healthy respect...

I made one that goes to 30" using "c" clamps at the ends. I'm not sure if you can make one do 6' because you would need intermediate clamps to get a good bend. Then the clamps interfere with the stock before you bend it. At work we have rented the real thing a couple of times. $30.00 a day or $96.00/week. If you could make all bends in one day I think you would be ahead to rent.

I think Shopnotes magazine had one of the homemade sheet metal brakes in an issue the past couple of years. Do a search on their site
