Here is another in the series of the scalloped vases. This one is Elm and I decided to leave it natural. I really like the little knots and the wood grain. Several light coats of lacquer. It is 7 3/4" tall and 3 3/4" across. Hopefully I can get this one down to the art gallery.:D

Bernie
I like it but not as much as the last two. This shape just doesn't do much for me.Besides the body shape I really like the scallops and the way you high lite them.
And the base color really shows off the natural wood of the body.

Thanks. Harry the LOML has sketched a few of these for me. She wanted one no dye and she likes elm wood. I did get the body just a little longer than I would have liked but she likes it. The rim and foot are dyed with black india ink.

That's very nice Bernie. How did you carve the scallops?

Thanks Dane, John and Mark. Yep John that is the one and only test in my books.

Dane I use the indexing of the lathe (24) to mark the rim. I use a half circle to draw the scallops and use a oscillating spindle sander to carve them out.

Really nice. Somehow I don't think it's going to make it out of the house.... :)

Really nice Bernie. I like the scallops and the form is very interesting and the contrast with the black really makes the piece pop for me. Alan

Another nice one Bernie. I like the natural finish, it shows off the character of the wood.
