This is my first natural edge attempt, left the walls a little thick due to fear of blowing up. It's cherry burl measuring approximately 7" x 3". Let me know what you guys think.

Looks good to me! Cherry burl is beautiful stuff, so the simple shape works perfectly!

Much nicer than my first (few) natural edge and a beautiful piece of wood as well!

Jay, I think you did very well! Great piece of wood, and looks like you got a nice curve going. It may have flattened a little toward the top, but still very nice.

On the pics, your depth of field is limited - only a portion of the bowl is in focus. I think you might do better with a smaller aperture - higher f-stop.

Jay, fine looking natural edge bowl. I think the thickness looks ok personally. I get a little carried away sometimes taking a bowl too thin, and it kinda takes away from it. Thicker bowls beg to be picked up and held, so if you are happy with it, it's well done in my book as well.

Great job. I like the thckness of the edge. It shows off the bark.

Nice NE. Came out very well for a first! That is a pretty challenging piece for a first, beautiful wood and I like the lift the foot is giving it. Well done.

Nice job on your first NE Jay. Not an easy piece to work and keep all the bark. Did you turn this to the present thickness green or has it been dried and returned? I noticed one crack, hopefully you wont develop anymore. The cherry burl NE's I have turned (green and thin) have moved a lot and developed multiple little cracks.

Thanks everyone. Baxter it had already started cracking before I got to it. Pretty dry when I turned it. I'll keep an eye on it to see if more develop. Thanks for the photo tips John.
