I've been working on this one for approx. one month now. However, with an un-airconditioned shop and 40+ consecutive days at 100+ degrees I haven't been able to get it completed as quickly as I had intended.

It's turned from a piece of Mesquite log end grain - my first end grain hollowed container. It stands 7.5" high by 7" in diameter and is finished with Danish Oil, Shelac and WOP and buffed then waxed withRenaissance wax. The beads were inset and glued into holes I drilled while holding the top in the chuck and using an indexing wheel to control the position while drilling through a jig attached to the tool rest.

Lifting out the stems allows beads to be dropped in without removing the lid. My youngest daughter made the worm from Fimo modelling clay and painted on the eyes.

C&C welcome, as always!

Kelvin i think that's just what the doctor ordered for any child. Great job and i know some kid is gonna be thrilled.

Kelvin, this turned out great. I really like the addition of the worm. Can't wait to see it in person.

Fantastic! I love everything about this piece, but the worm puts it over the top! Great job!

That is more creativity than I can muster in 2-3 years! Beautiful Mr Burton!

Kelvin,
You beat me to it. I am finishing an apple box for the Beads of Courage at SWAT. Just put my second coat of red finish on it, so I can't post a picture, but will as soon as it is done. Guess we can't have too many boxes for the kids, even if some are similar.

I really like your box, especially the worm...very cool idea.
