I'm not sure what rough cherry goes for around the country, but here in Middle Tennessee I haven't been able to find it for much less than the $5-$6 range. For that matter, I haven't been able to find real rough, dried lumber at all. I've seen some local rough mills but everything is wet. And there are a few good mills that have nice stacks of dry stock, but its usually S2S and they refer to it as "rough."

All that to say I bought 220 bf of rough, air dried (6 years, 10% mc) 4/4 cherry for $300. Its going to be a bed for my son and maybe some end tables if there is enough left over.

Terry, what are the hardwood buying options like down your way?

That price for cherry is gloat worthy just about anywhere in the country.

And I thought that I was getting a deal when I paid $2.00 per board foot for rough sawn cherry in western North Carolina!

I've gradually started to mill a few pieces and it looks like there will be some nice figure in this stack. There will also be some junk but that's to be expected.

Last purchase I made of Cherry was at $3 /bf and it was left over bought out stock at a special price. Normally it runs about $4.50 to $6.50 /bf.
