ahhh, Roger...I need a towel to wipe my chin! That's a seriously nice haul. That 3rd pic with the chunk that looks ideal for big hollow form must be 10" on a side. Dang!!! Very nice. Looking forward to seeing you do something cool with that stuff!

John,

I would have gotten more, but my chain dulled to the point it would not do much more than create sawdust..........I may go back and get another load.

Roger,
Buy a spare chain before you go. You never know when metal or dirt embedded in the bark can dull a blade.

Very nice color. You should have some spectacular bowls and some nice smaller items with the leftovers. Great haul.

Is there enough to share, Roger? If Tony doesn't come after some, I bet Mike and I would be willing to do a little side trip this weekend :D Mike should have his chainsaw back from the shop by now...

Roger: I ususally find your sense of humor quite fun, but today, I am disliking you a whole lot!!! :-) First, I'm running out of wood , and 2nd your shiny pickup. Toyota recalled my pickup (15yrs old) last week and kept it as the frame had rusted thru & was unsafe to drive. ! My favoritist car of all time! They say they are going to buy it back from me. Now ain't that something? A truck with 40,450 on it and I bet I get 67.50 for it! HA!!! I've never heard of any car company after 15 yrs buying a vehicle back. So, your gloat today is a riot! :-) I'm jealous..really jealous!!

Dan,

There is one stump left and it looks like the base which forked off in to two main parts of the tree............It is behind a welding shop here in our city, and the guy who gave our club permission to get it is a wood turner himself...........he gave it to our club, and after a larger trailer load [an 18ft. trailer like you haul a bulldozer on] the only parts left were some of the larger trunk areas which is what you see here and cut up on my pickup.

I think that piece that is left would require a fairly good saw and might yield perhaps about 6 blanks............ I don't know the individual who owns it personally, but I do know his name. If you are serious, then I could ask the guy who called me, and see if he would make contact, get back with permission [hopefully] and then send you a PM. [provided you think it is worth the trip for maybe 6 blanks]

Michelle,

Sorry to hear of your pickup dilemma ......... what you don't see in the pics is that mine has lost the paint on the roof, and is rusting  it is nearly 15 years old [will be in Feb. 2012] and has nearly 100 K on it. I have taken good care of it mechanically speaking and it runs great............just the paint needs to be replaced........I have a bit of a quandry on whether to spend $3500 or more on a good paint job on a truck that old.

I hope your situation garners more than $67.50 and you are able to get a vehicle that will allow you to haul wood to your hearts content!

thanks Roger...with a 15 yr old paint job, doesn't one just get out the spray can of matching paint & spray it on all lumpy & runny? :-0 I wouldn't put a 3500.00 paint job on it either!! But, hey, I checked the kelley blue book on mine (toyota will pay 125% of the kelley, and that comes to 3900- 5,250.00 if my figuring is correct and toyota agrees with how I did it. So yours may be worth more than you think. New car prices are beyond the stratosphere, so keeping them is becoming more & more realistic. Good luck with yours.
