Here is a small hammer I made, plus one I might finish some day. Both heads are mild steel with O-1 faces welded on with 316 stainless filler rod (because I like the color). Welding actually "heat treats" the O-1; I have a mild differential hardness (from center out), just soft enough to be "sticky" when striking a nail (I'd guess in the mid 50's). I did an acid etch to show the weld (poor boys harmon). Pear wood handle.
The other hammer is a bruiser for beating on chisels so I have a curved handle that I think will be more ergonomic for that operation, some kind of very hard pine. I recently bought a buffer so I went to town.

That's easy to accomplish, Jim...

Every wood shop has a roll of double-stick tape.

Just double-stick your gold card to your forehead and walk into your local Jet (or other metalworking tool supply) store.

They'll take it from there!!! :D

Funny you should say that, I got the Build Your Own Metalworking Shop from Scrap: Series Set (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0960433082) in the mail yesterday. Get you a set, collect some charcoal and scrap metal and get cracking!
