some items were donated to our club, Southside Woodturners, and among them was a burnmaster with multipy pens, i won the raffle and donated to local charity in his name

problem is i watched Molly demo and it seemed so simple

having trouble getting same thickness on lines
using plank and the grain makes pen jump in places, smooth in others
have varied the heat, any suggestions
isopropyl alcohol does clean up the burns and even takes out pencil marks, almost easier without pencil
straight lines hard enough now, would like to use curves but ......

need help.....or at least have a good laugh

I am no master of my Burnmaster ...yet, but I have learned a few things.

1) turn down the heat for lines and go slower
2) sharpen the edge of the tool your using for line work with a hone or sandpaper
3) ALWAYS pull the tip, never push
4) rotate the pen as you are pulling it through curves so that the edge is always perpendicular to the direction of travel

Hope these few things help a bit.

Everything that Scott said and one more - PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!

I'm no expert, but I do know that I get a little better each time I try something. Good luck. Molly is coming to our club in October and I'm looking forward to listening.
