On Saturday I met with a very high end art gallery about representing me. The gallery owner had previously purchased one of my pieces, so I knew he liked my work, but getting represented by them is another story; at least they were willing to meet with me. They have some ceramics and sculptures but have never carried a woodturner.
I had a wonderful 2 hour meeting with them and they were very positive about my work, but not sure how to handle me. In the end they decided to give it a try and I left them with 2 bowls and 1 vase and agreed to send them one piece that I did not have with me.
Here is the email I received later that afternoon.
"Less than an hour after you left the gallery, I had a couple in and they saw your bowls on the counter. [They were not even on display yet]. They liked them very much and decided to think about it over lunch. They came back an hour later and took them both home. Congratulations! I think we broke the gallery record for selling something in the shortest amount of time since it arrived at the gallery. I'd like to have you bring in your other pieces before you leave town so we can put out a couple more before you leave. We should also probably discuss ratcheting up the prices one notch."
I think this will be a good relationship for me.
