I've been hanging on to this burl for about 6 years and after a little experience with my Monster, it was time to make something out of it. It measures about 8 1/2 " high by 10 1/2" Diameter. There were several features that I wanted in the finished product, so it's walls are a bit thicker (3/8") than I set out to make it.

Tell Steve and Baxter to check out the photos, as I'm finally making use of their photo advice and counsel. C&C's welcome of course! Thanks for looking, Mike

Beautiful.

BLM is easily in my top three favorite woods and this piece seals it there. I think you more than did the wood justice with the form of this piece. The natural opening and embellishments around it are a great addition!

Mike, this is some excellent work! I love the collar treatment, and the stuff going on with the side is really eye catching. Very nice form, too.

What a neat piece of wood! I love the detailing near the top of the piece, and the tree image formed on the side of the piece. The profile shot seems to show a few little irregularities in the curves, but I still think it's a pretty special piece. Thanks for sharing.

Yes...I had to do a double double take to make sure I wasn't looking at a carving. Awesome piece, Mike.....nice job!

Mike,
Great job. I bet the rough chunk gave the powermatic a workout! I do really like the tree within the tree.

Thanks for all the comments. I am constantly learning from the comments on this forum and from some of the beautiful projects you all display.

It amazes me what treasures we find in some pieces of wood, and this one had that "tree of life". My wife says it isn't going to the charity raffle as intended. I better get out there and find another blank as the raffle is next friday.

Keeping the chips flying, Mike

Very nice Mike, reminds me of some antique piece from greece or something along those lines. I have a piece of burl similar to this I have been trying to figure out how to use it, still havnt decided yet.

That is really neat to "find" a tree on the side of your form. Nice work.

Mike,
I thought you did carve the tree till I looked closer. That is really a beautiful work of art. I don't blame your wife for hanging on to it.
