Howdy everyone,

I finally I found a flea market here with some nice hand tool goodies!!! :D Up to this one, I've basically seen nothing but junk. Pittifully rusty no name #5's with broken totes for $60 etc...

This little place had 2 booths packed with nice stuff. This type 3 Bedrock 604C just had to follow me home this mornin'.......

I prolly paid to much but I'm sure I'm not the first to do that. ;) It was $85.

Everything looks correct and original. The jury is still out on the japanning. It almost looks too perfect but I really don't care. This one is not going any where any way. It's all mine and I'm gonna keep it.

Thanks for looking,

Terry

TerryYep Terry,

You paid way too much for that plane. So being the friend that I am I'll tell ya what I'll do to help you out. I'll send ya a check for the $85.00 plus shipping and take that old thing off your hands so you don't have to feel so bad :) You did real good! Congratulations. btw, you better make some shavings with it and post those pics quick, or you are going to be labeled a "C*ll*cT*r!"

Thanks John. Now that is a true friend, one that would offer to end my suffering by taking the offending item off my hands. :D

Let me keep it a few more days and see if the bad feelings don't just go away on their own. :D :D :D

Great looking #603 you got there, Terry. Looks like all you need to do is hone the iron and put it to work.

Terry,
I use a 604c as my default smoother, which I bought from a dealer, for --- ou gyurssed it --- $85. Of course, the Hock iron and cap iron drove the price up a bit. Enjoy.

That's a beauty for sure!

And fully worthy of the galoot salute :D

Shame that y'all are living in an area where Bedrocks are available for less than $100.:(

Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!

I took it all apart and discovered the japanning had been redone...well sort of. They actually painted over the original japanning. I decided to strip it and do it right and it's drying as we..er....well...type/read. I have a Lie-Neilson A2 blade ready to go in it as well. I should be able to get it back together tomorrow. I'll give it a try and post the results.

BTW...Steve, It won't take very long for me to burn up my allowance at the LN booth. 'Bout 5 minutes I imagine. :D

Terry,

For the price of your new plane you can get:

a T-shirt {in each of 3 colors},
a calendar,
and a hat.

at the LN booth...and still have enough left over for a cup of boutique coffee. :D

Course if you buy a LA jack they'll throw in the calendar. :D:D

Dan,

Yup...can't get any planes though. Hopefully I can swing something from LN. I do want to watch the demos and touch the goodies. Hopefully that will be for free. :D

Terry,

They will have camilla oil at the booth as well as plane maintenance kits. All I left with was a hat, but then several came via UPS. The block planes are excellent. I think you have a LV LA Jack, another serious plane to look at would be a 4-1/2 York Pitch - very nice. They should also have the David Charlesworth videos, and they are very good.

Have Fun - John

P.S. I knew you would clean up the plane...

John,

OK, you got me. :p It was begging for it after I started listening. Plus, John D. was hounding me to do it. :D I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I had forgotten about the videos. That sounds like a good thing to get. Not sure I can swing the 4 1/2 but I sure would like to.

tHey Buddy, I simply told you what you wanted to hear ;) And when it is done and you are using it you will be happy you did it. Much better than it sitting on a shelf collecting dust :D

Ah...true enough. :D Seems these darn planes are kinda like cars. Some prefer original, some restored and others build hot rods. I guess this one turned out to be a bit of a hot rod with the LN blade. Like we used to say at the body shop. Any body can restore one but it takes a real man to cut one up. :D :D :D Not much cutting thank goodness but it is sure gonna look WAY different than it did this mornin'.

Terry,

If you want to do this one up the old fashioned way -- it being a BedRock and all -- pm me with your address and I'll send you some of my home-brewed bake-on Japan.

t,

Too late for this one. I've already went with the 21 century solution and it's drying in the shop. I would like to have the formula though. I'd like to try the real thing on one. I'll PM you in a sec.
