Electrolysis rust removal on Victory D-15. Yes or no.

I have been reading about electrolysis rust removal on vintage tools lately.
My old Victory D-15 has a bad rust spot near the handle. Will electrolysis
damage the etched victory logo? Any thoughts?

No dont try it, use a razor blade and scrape the rust..
It should leave the etch intact as it just below the surface of the blade..

I probably wouldn't bother with electrolysis on something as flat as a saw blade. Either what Johnny said or use something called SandFlex. It's like a silly putty sanding block that does wonders for taking off rust. Electrolysis really shines when you have to remove rust from items that have lots of nooks and crannies that would otherwise be very difficult to access with a brush or sandpaper.

Melvin..Try a product called "Autoso" metal polish..it is a German brand so you should be able to find it..I find that while electrolysis is effective often the remaining staining is more irratable that the rust was...try www.autosol.de

Use the technique that you suggest but use a wet towel around the affected area rather than ponding the entire blade. The soaking wet towel is the water bath. Works beautifully.
