I finished a little box for the SWAT symposium Beads of Courage event... These boxes are given to sick kids as part of a program to help them cope with their illnesses. The swaturners.org website has all the details listed under the symposium heading.

Curly maple 'book matched' from a 2+ inch thick board, and it's about 6 inches in diameter. The funnial is boxelder burl. Aniline dye used for the coloring. The little 'beads' in the top are made from pen blank scrap. Finished with WOP on the outside and BLO/pastewax on the inside.

I've got a lot to learn about using color, but I thought a kid might like the funky color scheme.

Comments, criticism, and suggestions always appreciated.

Funky indeed. Love the form and the color/grain! The finial is a little odd on first sight, but considering who it is intended for, I think it is a great fit. Wonderful cause and I'm sure whoever gets it will enjoy it very much.

Nice little box David! I like the dye job and how it accentuates the curl. I also like your "funnial" (is that similar to a finial? lol) the little beads are cute and something I think kids would really like.

David, this one works for little kids and big kids! Very clean form, and the little black (dark) on the rim really shows well. Good colors for the purpose, and the funnial is perfect for this one!

Very nice David but where are the holes? I think this is the first thing I've seen you make that didn't have holes in it. :D
