Here is a Big Leaf Maple vase from the wood I got from Mike Smith. It is 9 1/2" X 3 1/2". It has 6 coats of WOP on it with one more to go then let it dry to buff it. I roughed out 3 mimosa bowls today also from my stash from Mike Smith.

I had a hard time picking out pieces from Mike's collection of BLM. So many great looking pieces of wood there and this is no exception. The void really sets the vessel apart.

I just finished a Mimosa bowl myself. I'm proud of how it turned out but it was some of the toughest wood to get smooth that I've encountered. Look forward to see what yours turns out like.

Bernie, this one I like! Of course, BLM is one of my favorites, and you sure got a nice chunk of it. I am hoping Mike returns from his trip out west via KY and has a bunch of BLM and Claro with him!

Nice, Bernie! Looks like you had a hole for the shavings to exit through!

Real nice work Bernie. Having a giant hole in the side sure helps with the shavings huh!

Maybe he'll swing through Raleigh and I can get what's left from what you guys have picked through.

Oh, wait...I can just take a nice drive over to his place. :p

That's a beauty! It has a lot of interesting figure. Big leaf maple is probably my favorite wood to turn except that I always pay retial for it. BTW - wouldn't this be referred to as a hollowed form, not a vase?

Thanks. Bill I call it a HF and the LOML calls it a vase. Now who am I to argue.:D

Wow, I love that one! I sent an e-mail to Mike a couple of months ago asking for some BLM, and I'm guessing he still doesn't have what I wanted because you guys are taking it all!
