This is my latest restore. I did not git it for a you suck price. It was the going rate but this one was in better shape and complete compared to others. The color is dark hammered bronze and white. The bronze turned out more charcoal grey and less hammered. I still like the way it looks. I polished up all of the metal. The belt guard did not turn out as good as I wanted. It was pretty polished but when I waxed it it turned a little dull. So here are the pictures.

Nicely done. I particularly like the detail on the motor, as well as the wooden shelf. Are you happy with how it runs?

I am not happy with the belt. I think it is adding a lot of vibration. Maybe the belt needs to be broke in. At low speeds it is great because the belt is pretty well stretched. At the higher end the belt starts to slap around. I have a notched v belt coming that I hope will smooth it out. Cary

Cary,

I just picked up a 40-440 from govliquidation.com. The belt cover is broken and I am missing the lower tool rest and work holder. I was wondering if you replaced the belt on yours and if so what size belt you used? Mine came with a Delta 331 but it appears to be too short. With the belt in place the variable speed indicator is forward of the #1 position.

Your rebuild is awsome, especially after seeing the condition of mine.

Bill,
The belt pictured is a 4L-360 which I read over at OWWM would work. I found it too long. I ended getting an AX33(35" belt go figure)cogged belt off of Amazon. Much happier now. The original belt that was on it was 34-3/4". I would love to see a picture of said basket case.
Cary

Edit to add: I guess the belt is not shown in any of the pictures I posted.

I have my 40-440 torn down already. So far I found that the variable speed clutch was frozen and the belt cover screw that is welded to the rear section is broken off.
The motor is an early 62-110 and I can't read the wiring schematic on the plate. I also found one of the winding leads has a bare spot. That will probably get a piece of shrink tube to fix it.
This is a picture from the auction I purchased it from. Also a picture of the motor plate. I am looking for someone with the same plate that is readable.
