Looks like a fantastic first! A little 'remove color cast' in some photo editing program, and you'll be off to the races! Nice looking table too!

Rob, great bowl. You should have uploaded the pics you emailed me - really good color in those. I think you are doing a great job with this new hobby of yours. So much for the Neander thing - handplanes and bowsaws will never mean the same to you!!

Robert, looks great there! And I agree on that table too. Man, I'd be tempted to slap that on the lathe too!

Nice first bowl. Now that beautiful table top is awesome. Better watch it or that table will turn into a platter. ;). JP

Thats a really nice bowl, let alone a FIRST one!!! Remember that you should keep that one for all time. Sign and date it and then every year, you should go back and reflect on how your skills and your style will have changed. Thanks for sharing.

wow thanks again for all the great coments guys... the table top... well it has a story of its own. I have been lucky enough to travel to the virgian islands for the last few years. I like to bring back native mahogony last year I brought bac some tibit and this year i brought back mahogany and saman the saman is what that table top is make from that picture is honesty really awful its truely a beautiful piece of wood. the stuff I have been bringing back is mostly from blow downs fron hurricane hugo. I have a great guy I have been dealing with and we have established a nice working realationship. Next year im sure I will be bringing back another slab or two of each.. I have been blessed what else can I say:o

A very fine first bowl. It doesn't have the usual steep walls that most first bowls have, including mine. You have nice curves on this one which can be pretty tough for a first timer. Very well done.

Very nice. Well picked. I don't see any tearout, and the transitions look really smooth.

+1 on the slab underneath. If anything, that distracts from a great piece of turning ;)

203727That's an excellent first bowl Robert, but your camera has made a color balance error. It's reading daylight when the light source appears to be tungsten, and I have made a quick Photoshop adjustment attempt that should be a bit more accurate rendering of the wood colors.

Very nice work on your first bowl! I love working with curly and this bowl sure has plenty of that!

Lots of info available here on taking photos... do a search when you are ready or just start asking questions!

Looking forward to seeing your next bowl!

You need to check the book to see if you have "accidentally" messed with the color balance setting. Many cameras work fairly well on AUTO color balance, but even better if it can be preset to match the specific light source you're useing at the moment.
