I'm looking at a Nova DVR 3000. I mostly turn pens. Would still like to eventually turn some bowls. This lathe might possibly replace my Jet 1014. Hard to let that lathe go tho for pen turning. Can anyone tell me there experiences with this lathe? Pros/Cons... Thanks....

Billy, I can't answer for that particular lathe, but I've got the DVR XP and am really pleased with it.

I had planned on buying a Jet 1642 but ran across a good deal on a Nova 3000 a couple of years ago. It was the best thing that could have happened to me as I like it much better than the Jet my friend has.

That's the lathe I have and so far no complaints. Knock on wood. I love the rotating head.

Does it have a stand included? Either way you will want to pile on some weight.

Does it have the variable speed? A wonderful thing to have.

I think Bob Hamilton also has that lathe.

I have a DVR XP and love it. I know that is not the exact lathe you are speaking of but I can tell you the one you are looking at is plenty accurate and smooth enough for pens, pepper mills etc and it will easily handle bowls, hollow forms etc etc when you want it to.

If it is the one with the Leason or Baldor variable speed it is a great lathe. Used one for about 5 years with no problems except for a broken belt I tightened to tight when I first bought it. turned pens and bowls up to 20" on the outrigger. Did put weight in the stand but I did that on the XP when I bought it as a replacement. Can't go wrong on it if the price s right.

DVR means it is a DVR headstock and is like the DVR XP except with the bed of the older Nova 3000 lathe.

Thanks for all of the comments. Purchased the Nova DVR 3000 this evening. Will have to get my brother over to help me unload it. That headstock & table was just too heavy for me to lift. I'm enclosing a pic of what it looked like in his shop when I arrived to pick it up. Turned out it had the outrigger assembly with it for turning bowls.

Don't know what you paid for it but regardless you got a great lathe!
