I was planning on doing a 3D topo map for my brother-in-law for christmas since he just bought a house on a lake. I have a map that is 2ft x 3ft. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get it to a bmp or pdf file? I have a scanner but it would take about 20 scans and then aligning everything might take a lot of time. It is Old Hickory Lake just outside of Nashville, TN.

Thanks

I think I would go to Kinko's or maybe Staples. That is as long as it is not a copyrighted picture, then they would not do it. I think they can scan it to a file.

Take it to a company that does blueprints. They most likely will have capability to do it for you.

What I do when they are too large to scan is tape it to a wall, set my digital camera, on a tripod, back a ways, and zoom in. That keeps distortion to a minimum. Snap a few photos and you have it in digital on your computer. If it's something with particular dimensions you need to keep, measure the original and adjust the photo to match. Works for me, most times....

Also, many counties have websites where you can download topographical maps, look for "GIS"

The map I have is copywrited so Kinkos will not do it. I bought the pdf version george but it is password protected so I cannot open it in corel. emailed the company to see what is up (no reply yet). Thanks for your ideas. Next step is to print the pages of the pdf and rescan them to my own pdfs :( ugh. hopefully they will give me the password.
