I'm taking the family to Williamsburg for a week and I'm wondering if there are any wood-related things to see/do when I'm there. I'd be interested mainly in traditional woodworking shops, furniture museums, etc. but I might also consider an exceptional wood or tool dealer (thinking about visiting Felder on the way down). Looking to not travel more than 1 hour from Williamsburg if possible.

Thanks.

The cabinet makers shop in Williamsburg should be a must see for you. I think they have a website, which seems odd for an 18th century facility. The had a tool exhibit in one of the museums in the 1990s, but I think it was a temporary exhibit. Lots of period furniture in the museum houses.

Don't forget the Carpenter shop. It's not open every day, but I found it very interesting. The Hay Cabinet shop is a must. And the Gunsmith has some very fine stock work.
