Dean Jordan, one of our turners had a very interesting story to tell at the club meeting tonight. He went out to his wood pile and selected a big (16 high by 12 or so wide finished turned) piece of oak that had been sitting out for a year or so. It had a bunch of ants coming out of it so he used chemical war fare on them. He proceeded to turn the outside of the piece. As he turned down the outside, he opened up a natural hole in the wood. Some thing came flying out and bounced off his face mask. He continued to turn, but out of the corner of his eye, saw the object that came flying out moving across the floor on its own. It was a mouse! His dog quickly took care of the mouse.

The dog could have taken its time - the mouse was vortex dizzy for sure. Lathe speed is beyond astronaut G force testing.

They're not allowed drink bottles or shampoo larger than 4 ounces.

That's a great story Reed! I've had a few critters fly out of my wood before, but never anything as large as a mouse.
