For my birthday last week my lovely bride got me The Wood Book. If you haven't seen it, check it out (she got it on Amazon). It was originally published in 14 volumes between 1888 and 1913 with actually wood plates instead of pictures. The pictures were taken from the plates in three sets of the originals.
Each wood is shown in end grain, quartersawn, and flatsawn.
The color is amazing, and the publishing is great. The publisher put it together as an art exercise for their 25th anniversary. If you love North American wood, this book belongs on your shelf.
