I have a 19 year old granddaughter from Indiana visiting with us. Friday she showed some interest in learning to turn so I suggested pens. Saturday we drove to Spokane and purchased some pen kits and some acrylic blanks.

Here she is guys...I present Abby with her first pens. She did better with her firsts than I did!

Woohoo!!! What a great way to start Ken! Those are some fine pens and like you, much better than my first offering! Pat the young lady on the back from a fellow pen lover!

Ken so glad you had a chance to get her in the shop. She does some great work for a rookie. You did a great job with that girl.

Ken, There is nothing like the smiling face of a new young turner! Every youngster I share my skills with wants to come back every chance they get. It drives their parents crazy though! Beautiful kit choices and a great group of colors, she will be the pride and envy of her friends!

Great job Grandpa,

Jeff

She did better with her firsts than I did!Ken, perhaps she had a better teacher than did you!! Looks like she is very pleased with her work, too. Just wish I could get one of my grandkids interested! Maybe I will send them out to you.

Pretty good job, bet it makes Grandpa feel pretty good. Perhaps young folks listen to the teacher very closely-especially girls.

Grandpa it doesn't get any better than that. Tell her she made some great looking pens for her first. Precious time my friend.

Nice gloat Ken with some really fine work by Abby. Can't wait for my grandson gets older. So many things to teach him. All legal of course.

Those are good looking pens period. First or not, I know you must be proud.

And still one more gets sucked into the vortex. Abby did a great job on the pens and you did a great thing teaching her. :)

Congrats, Ken... I'm still trying to get my wife interested (it would make some of those larger purchases easier ;)).

Congrats Ken, you were pulled into the Vortex by the SMC family and now you've passed that on to another family member. Abby's memory of her first turning experience will last a lifetime even if the pens don't.

Well done!

All the best, Tom, in Douglasville, celebrating another turner joining the fold.
