How Do I Sharpen My New P&N Detail Gouge

Hello all,

I just reciveid my new P&N detail gouge from LV.
I do have the oneway vari grind
Out of the box, It looks like a small roughing gouge

How Do I put the first edge on this 1/2" tool?

Howdy, from the photo you posted I really cant make out the shape of the tool...eyes arent as young as they used to be, but what helped me when I was learning to sharpen in the beginning is a PDF that Doug Thompson has on his website on the proper settings for the vari-grind....check this link out and see if this will help you, it worked wonders for me!

Yea, I would try the instructions in the PDF at the link I posted above...once I read them it finaly clicked for me and made a big difference.

There are unlimited profiles for this gouge depending on your intended use. From the top, this is what mine looks like, and I have a double bevel on the heel, leaving a working bevel of less than 1/8".
