SMC Statistics for Jan 2005 - 69K Visits

As usual I'm late posting the SMC statistics for last month. The graphic below shows that we zeroed the web site log and dumped the stats for last year but they are archived here in the Support Forum for anyone interested.

Our stats continue to climb with our membership, with over 69,000 visits and almost 126.000 pages served in January 2005. The data transfer is climbing as well and the new server continues to get a workout but is handling the load well.

The Febuary stats in the graphic document the first 16 days of the month.

SMC is on a T1.. last month we had 97.6 GB of transfer at 1.544 Mb/s; that's roughly 5.8 days worth of full capacity. Fortunately, the load is distributed well--nowadays the number of users online remains about constant between 8am and 12pm, and it really only drops down to about half between 2am and 6am EST.

For those interested in some more detailed statistics, I've included two graphs down below. The first one is SawmillCreek's bandwidth usage, the second graph contains SMC growth statistics relative to last April when I started collecting statistics. :)

Below you can see that SawmillCreek's Bandwidth usage doubled around June and has remained that way ever since. This is explained in the SMC growth graph.

How to read the growth graph:

1.00 represents the current level in January 2005, and 0.00 represents the level in April 2004; e.g. 0.50 is 50% of the change from April to January. (The graph is scaled from 0 to 100 in order to compare relative growth rates for the four values.) Here are the beginning and ending values for the chart. (A 100% increase means the numbers have doubled, 200% tripled, etc.)

During this time when the Freedom Pens Project is in such a financial bind I would like to suggest that all memeber of Saw Mill Creek submit a check for $25.00 as "membertship dues". This will not solve the long term financial problems but this will give SMC and the FPP a immediate financial boost.

Due to the way I tend to access SMC, it got me wondering how the visits are counted. Do multiple visits from the same member get counted just once? I usually log on while at work, and then again in the evening at home. Does that end up counting as 2 visits or do duplicates from the same member get counted as one? From either location, it's not unusual for me to have more than one browser instance running with multiple SMC windows. Does each browser's access also get counted as another visit? I'm just curious what that kind of use does to the numbers.

Joe KellyAnother site that I frequent asks for a 10.00 contribution as a "sponsoring member" it allows you some added privileges. There is also a $15.00 membership too, I guess if you figure this site kinda like a subscription to a magazine with all the great information, it isn't a bad deal. Just my $O.O2

I think that membership dues would really cut down on the number of users, so am not in favour of such a move.

Having said that, the site is certainly valuable enough to me that I would pay such dues. But, I would only do so if those dues did not fund the Freedon Pens project (something that I do not and will not direcly support in any way).

Visits are calculated from the web server logs.
When an IP address first appears in the logs, it's added to a list. Once that particular IP address ceases to make any requests from the server for a period of 45 minutes, it's counted as a visit.

Thus, if you came back to SMC every 30 minutes for a 2 days straight, it would only count as 1 visit.
