I recently moved into a new house. I asked the builder to get me the brand and color name for the stain that was used on all the woodwork. Instead, he had the painter drop a can off (in a generic can, without brand and color names!) He dropped it at the front door (we always use the garage) so it was a couple days before we saw it and the temperatures were below freezing, maybe as low as 15 F. Is that a problem for the stain?

If it is oil-based stain, it probably didn't even notice it. Applying oil-base when it is cold is bad, but I don't believe storage is a problem. Water-base probably froze, but still I don't know there'd be permanent damage.

Mix it well, put some on a scrap and see if it dries OK. I'd be surprised if there's any issue.
