Finally I am getting back into the piercing of things! This was supposed to just be a test piece but I got involved and before I knew it I was happily spending hours making holes! This is a tiny piece of sycamore only 120mm x 45mm and as such posed some new challenges getting into so very tight nooks and crannies! Also the piercing had to be on the most part much smaller although I used the same 1mm bit This piece isn't turned as even wall thickness as I initially thought thickening at the bottom from about 2mm to 4mm (need to practice more) It was a joy to get back to the piercing Named Anat as its the younger sister to Anatir

As ever your thoughts are welcome

Thanks for taking the time to look too!

Lovely piece! Interaction with light and shadow is a welcome addition as well.
Not sure what Anatir is but Anat was a Semitic war-goddess.

yikes! that tells me to do more research! Anatir is an Arabian wind and also the name I gave to the larger pieces in this series. Since this was a small piece I just shortened the name! No Semitic War god type references were intended! Might have to have a rethink about that! thanks for the heads up

Hi all Thanks for your comments! The keen eyed amongst you may have noticed a slight change in name. This is due to some information I have just learnt. I originally named this piece Anat in reference to the Anatir pieces I have made in the past. This piece being much smaller I made to name shorter to match Anatir is an Arabian wind. However Anat is a semitic war goddess which isnt what I intended hence the name change! Apologies for any confusion

Richard, whatever the name, it is a beautiful piece!! I admire your patience with this piercing thing, and what amazes me is the lack of discernible pattern in the actual piercing. That is key, IMO, to a successful piece, as it allows one to see the layout scheme without the eye catching on something else.

Fantastic! I love the circles and the overall 'crispness' of the detailing. So happy to see you poking holes in stuff again!

Richard, I love the cut out pattern with the piercing to highlight it. This particular style really grabs my eye. I also like the way the you lit it for the photo. That shadowing really shows off what we can't see in the form from this angle.

Stunning work once again Richard! Really like how you play with light and shadows - both in the actual turning and in the photograph! Very nice!

For those without a calculator - this piece is approximately 4.75" wide x 1.75" high.
